At a time when most other large consumer electronics trade shows have
lost much of their past significance and appeal — what's the last
really significant CES-timeframe launch you can remember? — Barcelona's
Mobile World Congress continues to be a must-follow event.
That's no longer only due to the smartphones debuting there (of which
there were quite a few notable models), with several companies
introducing non-handset devices from categories as disparate as
wearables and virtual reality at the 2015 extravaganza.
Samsung Claws Back
Just a few weeks ago, I covered Samsung's declining fortunes in mobile:
while the company still outsells all other Android OEMs, its position
as a market leader is more tenuous than we've seen it during the Galaxy
era.
Well as CEO JK Shin noted in his Galaxy Unpacked presentation just
prior to the opening of MWC, Samsung has not been resting in its
laurels, and by most accounts, it shows — the Galaxy S6, and especially
the Galaxy S6 Edge, generated some of the most positive buzz coming out of Barcelona this week. Read More...
